Wash Park Info

Washington Park is one of Denver's largest parks covering 165 acres. This beautifully designed park is a hub for outdoor enthusiasts. There are several trails including paved and unpaved surfaces that go throughout the park with one that goes around the perimeter to provide a 2.6 mile jogging/biking path. Along the way, you will see 10 tennis courts, 2 lakes, 1 pond, streams, a recreation center, 1 horseshoe court, 1 basketball court, and 2 playgrounds. All year long there are people out and about, cross-country skiing, biking, playing volleyball, yard games, ultimate frisbee, or out on the paddle boats. Not only does the park provide great entertainment for the whole family, it is a must see during the summer months. With 54 flowerbeds and 25,000 annual plants planted each year, it's no surprise to see weddings and other special occasions taking place.

The park was built in 1899 dating most of the houses in the "Wash Park" neighborhood from 1900 to 1940. It has become a highly desirable urban neighborhood due to its location to the park, Cherry Creek Shopping, 10 min commute to Downtown Denver, 10 min commute to the Denver Tech Center, and many other commercial enclaves. Since 1972 the official city statistics have separated Wash Park into eastern and western sides. The eastern side of the Wash Park neighborhood perimeters, according to the city, consist of Downing Street, University Boulevard, Cherry Creek, and I-25. The western side of consists of Broadway, Downing, Speer Boulevard, and I-25.  For more information about Washington Park on park regulations, planning, water conservation, and more, click here.

For many, including myself, it is the active, beautiful outdoor outlet, surrounded by a hip urban feel that has created such a desired place to live. It's a place that encompasses a wide range of interests to cater all ages. Check out the hot spots and activities page to see a few of the great things the area has to offer.
